Crimea

On April 15 2010, The Revolution interns set out for the airport to head to a province of Ukraine known as Crimea. Upon arriving at the airport, they were promptly notified that their flights through Germany had been cancelled due to a volcano in Iceland (with a rather unpronounceable name for most non-Icelanders) erupting. A touch disappointed they returned to their homes. However, thanks to a lot of work and sleep lost on the part of the missions and organizing departments, as well as nothing short of a miracle, they were able to leave the next week flying through Chicago and Istanbul. Arriving In Simferopol, with little time to catch their breath, interns were separated into three teams traveling to different regions within the Crimean Peninsula. One team, headed north to a town called armynsk, one team stayed put in the greater Simferopol region, and the third team, self titled ‘Team Sven’ headed south to the port city of Sevastopol and the surrounding areas. While in each of their respective cities, the Interns had the opportunities to work in orphanages, help with roofing and other construction projects, teaching English classes in schools, and ultimately to assist local pastors in the building up of their churches and communities. Over the 9 days they were in the Crimea the Interns were able to practice and learn multiple phrases and words in the Russian language, eat some pretty exotic food, make lifelong friends both amongst each other and amongst the Ukrainians, and see dozens of people come to Christ. It was an experience that they gladly talk about all the time and is one that was life changing for all involved.
